As you explore the vast open world of Ashen, you will passively interact with other players in a manner similar to that of Journey’s online multiplayer mode. It is up to you to decide how to deal with them; you can either invite them to join your party, fight together against evil together, or just ignore them completely.
The’souls’ genre of stamina-based combat is represented accurately in Ashen, which also introduces players to a punishing yet gratifyingly large world. However, here’s the catch: no two instances of gameplay will ever be the same. It doesn’t matter if you’re digging through bogs, scouring a fjord, or looting an old palace; the environment in which you find yourself at any given moment will have a significant impact on the way the story unfolds. It is a harsh and dangerous open world, and you are simply living in it.
